Amazing night as Snow Patrol delivers classics and Noel Gallagher even breaks down the Wonderwall [Music]
Even though it has been years since they really became international super stars, I still felt like I was in for a night of semi cheesy pop songs that have frequented many a network drama series. Thank fully, I was way off.
Newcomer Jake Bugg open the show with a solo acoustic set whose sound exploded into a semi filled Palace Theater. At a mere 18 years old, Jake has blasted onto the UK scene with his debut album reaching #1 and he’s obviously already touring with the likes of international superstars. Grinding folk, sprinkled with a bit of country, he even has a song named Kentucky so obviously this young lad knows what’s good. It’s certainly worth checking him out.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds followed up and to be fair, I wasn’t overly familiar with their entire catalog going into it. While the aura of Gallagher himself, and the fact I was about 10 feet away from him, prominently reined over the crowd the music is very different than Oasis. While it does still have a very slight Oasis vibe at time, Gallagher and his Birds are pretty solid. It’s personally difficult for me to ‘separate’ him from Oasis, especially when he delivers an acoustic version of Wonderwall mid-set that brings the house down, but I was overall quite impressed with their performance. All crafted musicians the whole crew does live up to expectations musically and Gallagher’s mention of ‘never having been to Louisville before’ with a little snobbery, certainly lives up to expectations of his supposed arrogance.
My faith in ‘locals’ attending such shows with international acts has been a bit restored, as by the time Snow Patrol took the stage the crowd was almost complete! Snow Patrol certainly delivered every song most of the thousands reading would covet, but it was in a very structured way that really didn’t make one feel like they had just watched ‘Private Practice’, but more like been a part of something really positive. They mixed all the gems with some newer material and the set list bounced around with perfect structure. Everyone who attended seemed more than pacified and considering our weekend was packed with Bieber and The Boss, I was quite impressed with the turnout and hope all those acts return!
