“The Animals in Us” exhibition (part I) which runs from January 21 -March 16th 2012 at the Arts Council, is a two-part invitational exhibition. This exhibit, which consists of 6 writers from Indiana and 16 visual artists from Kentucky, is about representation. The artists’ state: “They are used symbolically and metaphorically to help us explain and understand ourselves, the world we live in, and the values we live by. They are representations of our spirituality, our political beliefs and the social conditions that need improving.”
Artists and writers contributing to the “The Animals in Us” exhibition are: Marian Allen, Catherine Arnold, Jeannine Baumgartle, Rebecca Crutcher, Wayne Fergusen, Ginny Fleming, Al Gorman, T. Lee Harris, Ken Hayden, Shawna Khalily, Joy Kirchgessner, Kristy Leverock, Bob Lockhart, Seamus McCoy, Ardis Moonlight, Joel Pinkerton, Tara Remington, Reba Rye, Wendi Smith, Brian Somerville, Rebekka Trapp, and Jay Whitman.
“The Animals in Us” is a 2 part exhibit. Part II of the exhibition will open on February 11 at 3 pm in the Resch (the old Gas and Electric Building) at 138 E. Spring St. in New Albany. The opening of Part II is being held in conjunction with “Passion for Pets”, a benefit to help support the area no-kill organizations.
“The Animals in Us” at the Arts Council and Resch Building will both run through March 16.
Events are free and open to the public. Donations kindly accepted. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local no-kill shelters & rescue leagues.
