The Asian Film Series at Village 8 presents 'They Call it Myanmar' [Movies]

This year's Asian Film Series by Apex Theaters started with the documentary Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, the story of Chinese artist and political protester Ai Weiwei. Next, we were presented with the Japanese film I Wish, in which a young boy undertakes a journey with the hope of reuniting his family. The film series concludes this week with the final installment: They Call it Myanmar.

Myanmar, also called Burma, sits in Southeast Asia. It is one of the poorest countries in the world, and thus is full of violence, treachery, and corruption. Robert Lieberman took his cameras there to capture a portrait of this world, and its people. He shot 120 hours of footage and interviewed over 100 people over a two year period. This eighty minute film is the result of his efforts.

They Call it Myanmar is scheduled to play at Village 8 Theaters until next Thursday, September 27. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
