Growing up a little faster than normal brings about interesting experiences in Big: The Musical, which will open on Friday at Kentucky Center.

Big the Musical will go on Aug. 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m. each night.  Matinee shows are on Aug. 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 1:30 p.m. each day.  All shows will take place in the Bomhard Theatre at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Tickets for the all-ages, 2.5 hour show is $27.50 per person.  All tickets can be purchased either at the Kentucky Center box office, the Kentucky Center website, or by phone at 1-800-775-7777.

Big, the Musical showcases Josh, a 12-year-old who is sick of being small.  After a rather embarrassing attempt to speak to a 13-year-old and beinjg too small for a carnival ride, Josh longs to become bigger.  He makes that wish in a carnival game.

When he wakes up the next morning, he will find himself much bigger, and older, as he learns what its like to be grown up.  Mistaken identities, missed appointments, and dancing on a toy store piano are soon in the works of hilarity for Josh.

Big, the movie, starring Tom Hanks, debuted in 1987 and features the iconic dancing on the piano scene in FAO Schwartz.  The musical, meanwhile, debuted on Broadway in 1996 at the Shubert Theatre.  The musical comedy features Richard Maltby, Jr.'s lyrics, John Weldon's book, and David Shire's music.
