Help Buck Creek Valley Rescue continue to help needy horses by helping them with their upcoming fundraiser
Buck Creek Valley Rescue will host an upcoming fundraiser to help them raise needed funds to purchase the land they operate on with an upcoming auction and yard sale.
Buck Creek Valley Rescue is a equine rescue facility located in Elizabeth, Indiana and was founded in 2007 by Richard and Robin Mills. They house and care for abused, neglected, and unwanted horses, as well as other animals in need.
One of the severely neglected horses right after arriving at Buck Creek Valley Rescue. This horse received the care she so desperately needed at the facility but set-backs caused Miss Gump to lose her battle despite BCVR's best efforts to save her.
In a prior story on Louisville.com, link to article here, I had told of the impending loss of the land that Buck Creek Valley Rescue operates on, due to the property facing foreclosure, and the petition effort underway to convince organizations to award grant monies to them to help purchase the land.
They are also currently working on another fundraising effort that needs your help. On February 23 and 24 Buck Creek Valley Rescue will be hosting a yard sale and large auction at their facility and need items donated and the public to show up and bid on those donated items. The yard sale will start on the 23rd at 9 am. Both the auction and the yard sale will be conducted on February 24th starting at noon. To see the event flyer go here. It costs the rescue $250,000 dollars a year to care for its current equine residents and now they have to worry about purchasing the land they operate on so as not to have to worry about losing it. Of course monetary donations of any size are also greatly needed at this time and can be donated via the facility’s website here. Donations of hay and other supplies are also always needed. To see a list of what is always needed go to their website link listed above. These contributions are tax deductible as the facility is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Besides helping these needy equines and other rescue animals they also have plans for using their rehabilitated equines in alternative therapies for special needs children and adults. I run a children’s horseback riding lesson program and I can say first hand horses are wonderful for those with special needs.
If this facility closes the current rescued equines housed there will have uncertain futures and future horses that will need their help will be without this wonderful facility’s safety net. It goes with out saying that those children and adults with special needs will have also lost a great opportunity to love these horses.
The facility also adopts out horses that are in good enough health and you can go to their website for information on adopting a horse or pony.
To see the wonderful work they do please be sure to read about one of the special severely neglected horses that they rescued, Miss Gump, by going here.
