For 33 years, Nancy Tarrant and her employees at The Cheddar Box have been known for serving food that is gourmet yet simple. This appears to be a formula for success, one which Nancy smartly recognized and decided to build upon - last week, she opened a breakfast and lunch location called ‘The Cheddar Box Too!’ right across the street from her well-known storefront. It serves classic favorites from the original location, but mainly offers up delightful and seasonal creations from Chef Derek Roberts.
When I visited last Tuesday morning, I had a difficult time choosing just one dish. The menu offers a number of enticing options, including ‘Oatmeal Brulee’ with a caramelized top and fresh fruit; ‘Early Winter Granola’ with maple syrup, cranberries, pecans, honeyed yogurt, and fruit; ‘Eggs Benedict’; ‘Biscuits and Gravy’; ‘Belgian Waffles’; a ‘Braised Breakfast’ with potatoes, onions, braised beef, rosemary, and eggs; ‘Roma’s Garden’ with a biscuit, poached egg, gruyere cheese, wild mushrooms, and a seared tomato; ‘Steel Cut Oatmeal’ with brown sugar and toasted pecans; and a ‘Country Ham and Egg Basket’ with sage potatoes and hollandaise.
After a bit, I decided pancakes sounded best, so I ordered the Ricotta Lemon Pancakes. They were served with a berry whipped cream and a blueberry coulis, and they were delicious. Soft and well-prepared with just the right amount of sweetness. They did have a different texture from your average buttermilk pancake, which I really appreciated. However, if pancakes that aren’t fluffy clouds don’t tickle your fancy, they do offer Buttermilk Pancakes, as well!
Side options included smoked bacon, house-made sausage, potatoes, grits, muffins, scones, and toast with whipped butter. As for beverages, one could choose from the following: hot tea, coffee, espresso, café au lait, cappuccino, orange juice, apple cider, and soft drinks.
I will be back for the French Toast with brioche, vanilla bean batter, caramel, and coffee whipped cream. Very, very soon.
I’m sure they would appreciate your feedback and your business, so plan to pay them a visit soon!
