The Passionist Earth & Spirit Center will offer two separate courses, “A World of Health: Connecting People, Place and Planet” and “Eating Sustainably: Menu for the Future” on six consecutive Mondays beginning this coming Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.

“A World of Health,” which will run mornings from January 17 through February 21. The discussion-based course will explore what defines “good health,” the connections between human health and the environment, and how we can sustain both. Along with covering limitations of the current medical model and its approach to health, there will be an examination of the places where personal health intersects with the environment—from our food and homes, to our communities and society.

“Eating Sustainably” which will take place during the evening on those same dates, will examine eating as an agricultural act, an ecological act, a social act and a moral act. In offering a diversity of voices and a helpful study guide, participants can help direct both themselves and their communities toward a healthier and more equitable world through the food we eat.

The Center’s mission is “to motivate, educate and enable religious institutions and people of faith to assume an active role in ensuring a just, beautiful and sustainable world.”

The classes, which may be taken separately, will be held at 1924 Newburg Road in the Highlands, and the cost for each of the six-week courses is $25. For more information or to register, e-mail earthandspirit@passionist.org.
