Feel that? That's your head pounding. Too much alcohol last night, perhaps – you may need to refresh your memory via embarrassing Facebook pictures. You kids reading, your migraine is more likely from a severe sugar rush. I'm sure a large chunk of your bright cornucopia of candy cascaded down your gullet almost immediately upon returning home. But hangovers be damned! It's November now, and Thanksgiving (my personal favorite holiday) is just around the corner. It's gotten cold – bitterly so – so perhaps it is best to grab a close friend and snuggle up at U of L's Floyd Theater.
The weekend of films begins tonight (Thursday) with Undefeated, last year's winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. (We discussed this film earlier in the year, so I won't go into my whole sarcastic spiel here.) The setting: a small town. The players: a struggling high school football team – underdogs, as it were. The coach: Bill Courtney, the one man who can inspire the kids and turn their fortunes around. Can they overcome the odds and bring home a winning season?? Tune in to find out!! Undefeated plays tonight at 5:00 and 8:00.
High school football not high-octane enough for you? I don't blame you. Try the weekend screenings of Dredd (which screened in theaters in 3D, but will be shown here in plain ol' 2D – an improvement, many would say). A remake of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone vehicle (which was based on a comic), Karl Urban takes on the role of the title character, a cop in a dystopian future out to bring down those behind the hallucinogenic drug SLO-MO. Dredd plays on Friday and Saturday at 5:00 and 8:00.
The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the U of L Student Activities Center (look for the clock tower on campus). Admission is $1.50 for students and $3.00 for adults. Further information can be found at the SAB Film Committee Facebook page.
