Louisville’s Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will offer free anonymous HIV testing in conjunction with the observance of National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Public Health and Wellness mobile unit which will be parked in the Valu Market parking lot at 5301 Mitscher Avenue.
Testing will be done using the Oraquick oral swab method, which does not require a blood stick. Test results will be available within 20 minutes. No appointments are necessary.
“I urge people to take advantage of this opportunity to be tested and to know their HIV status,” said Public Health and Wellness Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt. “Of the more than one million people in the United States who are HIV positive, nearly 200,000 don’t know their status. There are now medications and treatments that can save lives. Early diagnosis is the answer.”
The Public Health and Wellness Specialty Clinic at 850 Barret Ave. also offers free anonymous HIV testing every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and every Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
