Get your daily dose of fruit at Turtle Blossom Inspired Foods and Juice Bar [Food and Dining]

I took a nutrition class earlier this summer, and surprise, surprise, my diet is low in fruits and vegetables. I'm not going to start picking up pieces of fruit and snacking on them any time, but I did gain a new respect for the fruit smoothie when I visited Turtle Blossom Inspired Foods and Juice Bar this afternoon.

Owner Brad Grider opened the store earlier this month after renovating it from its previous life as a hippie clothes store. Turtle Blossom offers a full menu of smoothies and fruit juices made from fresh raw ingredients with no weird additives, and no added sugar.  Brad's brother Brandon, who made my Peaberry smoothie, explained that if the fruit is good, nothing needs to be added to it.He was right. Unlike other smoothie places, the drink I got at Turtle Blossom actually tasted like fruit. As I looked at the menu, one strange item caught my eye-- collard greens. Brad said that a lot of people actually do order drinks made with them. If you're adventurous with your food, it's a great way to get vitamins, minerals, and  fiber.

Turtle Blossom Menu Board The store only does drinks at this point, but they're working on offering lunch, as well as local produce and eggs, straight from the owners' farm. If all goes well, there may be a second Turtle Blossom location next year.

Stop by the store on Bardstown Road near Bonnycastle to meet your food pyramid goals for fruitsand vegetables. Also, visit the facebook page for more information and specials.
