Herbal Cosmetic Workshop

This afternoon, I attended a short herbal cosmetics workshop for only $5 at the Farnsley-Moremen Landing, and just like their previous workshop, it was relaxing, educational, and fun. Simply a perfect way to spend a Sunday.

Upon arrival, our places at the tables were set with pamphlets containing recipes for body powders, lip balms, skin salves, tinctures/liniments, hair rinses, skin toners/astringents, and even bath salts that help relieve headaches and congestion! Definitely a keeper.

Each of us made our own lavender body powder out of common pantry items. While the ingredients were passed around, Nola taught us about the herb sprigs that sat in the center of the tables. We learned their names and uses as we mixed, poured, and labeled.

When the ingredients for the lip balm were melted, she poured the liquid into our little tins. Watching the goo inside slowly solidify into all-natural peppermint lip balm was really cool, and it was even cooler that we got to take it home! My lips are now baby-soft and delicious.

Learning how simple it is to make these products was remarkably inspirational - my mother and I wanted to get started making cosmetics right away! Nola told us about recipes for mascara (aloe vera and eyeshadow!) and bags of herbal bath salts. She also provided a handout with 2 recipes for mint-chocolate and lavender lip balm!

Nola Lillie is a great teacher, and the classes are just lovely. Keep an eye on the site for future workshops and events!
