Kentucky Derby 138 horse profile: Alpha [Horse racing]

Pros

  • Almost beat the undefeated Gemologist his last time out, losing by a neck in the Wood Memorial
  • Has hit the board in five of his six races, including his last three in which his Brisnet speed figures have been 100 or better his last three races
  • Unlike previous entries from Godolphin Racing, owned by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Alpha has campaigned entirely in the United States this year

Cons

  • Only time out he failed to hit the board was the Breeders' Cup Juvenile—finishing 11th in a race that included eight other Derby horses and was run at Churchill Downs
  • A Godolphin horse has never finished better than six in Derby
  • Horses sired by Bernardini have finished no better than 12th in derby

Fun fact

Sheikh Mohammed has more money than you ever will, so don't feel too badly if Alpha loses

Final analysis

A possible value play to win. Include in the bottom of exotics.
