The Last Summer is an independent film produced by local filmmakers Jason Saint and Derek Sturgeon. It will be released on August 27 at 7 p.m in the Davis Arena, home of Ohio Valley Wrestling.
The story is about a group of friends who graduate high school and spend one last summer together getting trashed and putting their friendship to the test. Some decide to stay in town, others decide to leave and plenty of drama, drugs and drunkenness abound as many long standing issues surface to be dealt with before the end of summer. The film contains gross humor, violence, nudity, sexual situations, alcohol consumption, and coarse language.
The film was directed by Jason Saint, who also stars in it alongside Derek Sturgeon, Jason Crowe, Brandon Ingram, Aaron Madison, Mandi Roberts and Steve Goodman, all talent from the Greater Louisville area.
"I was watching a marathon of teen movies and decided I wanted to try one," said Saint. "But once we revamped it, we decided to take it in a more adult direction like the films Judd Apatow has been known for recently."
The film's soundtrack is reported to be full of highly praised punk rock acts such as The Bouncing Souls, Anti-Flag, Old Man Markley, Left Alone, The Unseen, Big D And The Kids Table, Stroke 9, Calabrese, Chaser, and Kevin Seconds of the legendary hardcore band 7 Seconds, who is writing a song exclusively for the film.
The premiere on August 27 will feature live performance in addition to the screening. Entertainment includes: music by Talk of Spring and Aim for the Skies; an appearance by the Roller City Derby Girls; an autograph session from the Ohio Valley Wrestling superstars; and drawings for over $2,000 worth of merchandise. Raffle items include items from bands, Ohio Valley Wrestling, local film companies, record labels across the globe and more. Tickets are one dollar.
Davis Arena is located at 4400 Shepherdsville Road in the back of a warehouse complex. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the screening will begin at 7 p.m. It is $5 to enter and it is recommended for an audience ages 18 and up.
