Employers and job seekers have the opportunity to connect at the Louisville Urban League’s 17th annual “Louisville Career Expo.” The event, which traditionally attracts 3,000-plus job seekers and about 75 exhibitors, is scheduled on Wednesday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Traditionally one of the largest events of its kind, admission to the Louisville Career Expo is free to the public and targets adults who are 18 years of age or older. The event offers companies and employers the opportunity to: 1) meet face-to-face with large numbers of qualified job applicants; 2) diversify their workforce; and 3) build relationships to further promote their company’s objectives and mission. “The Louisville Career Expo matches qualified and skilled prospective employees with great employment opportunities,” said Juanita F. Sands, director of the Louisville Urban League’s Center for Workforce Development. “While the local unemployment continues to hover near 10% Louisville’s job-seekers continue to search for positions that offer greater opportunities and growth,” she added. Nearly 60% of the 2010 expo attendees had post secondary education indicating a high number of educated candidates available to employers. Expo offers “extras” Attendees will arrive equipped with resumes and professionally dressed for success at this employment event. Because most employers prefer an online application process, the Expo will feature an on-site technology center enabling immediate receipt of electronic applications. In addition to giving companies direct contact to the best of Louisville’s workforce talent pool and excellent marketing exposure, the Expo will distribute current and projected job opportunities for employers who wish to feature specific job listings. Reservations can be made for private interview spaces. Colleges and training programs can recruit potential students for advanced education and certification programs in high demand industries, such as healthcare, information technology, and construction.
