Maybe you're like me, missing the Run Run Rudolph 5k at Light Up Louisville this afternoon. Perhaps that's because we knew Thanksgiving would leave a lingering coma-like sensation, or the uncertainty of the weather this time of year scared your running socks off. Or, it's possible there's just a little Scrooge clouding over [my] Black Friday.

Whatever the reason, this is no season to fully neglect fitness. My motto is, Do what you can, when you can, but don't stop. And, River City Races is helping us to keep going as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder with its Polar Bear Grand Prix race series.

The Reindeer Romp 4k kicks off the series on December 18, 2010 at Hogan's Fountain in Cherokee Park. The first 800 entrants will receive a Reindeer Romp holiday ornament. Early registration is only $15, plus an unwrapped gift for a 12- to 15-year-old child, or a $10 donation.

The Frostbite 5k continues the series on January 15, 2011 at the rugby field at Cherokee Park. The first 800 entrants will receive a long sleeve technical shirt worth $45. Early registration is $25.

The Snowman Shuffle 4 Mile completes the series on Saturday, February 12, 2010 at Hogan's Fountain in Cherokee Park. The first 800 runners and walkers of this race will receive Snowman Shuffle cotton running gloves. Early registration is $20.

Enter the entire Polar Bear Grand Prix for $60 and receive a free Polar Bear Grand Prix winter knit hat!
