Given this extreme heat we have been trudging through lately, we are always looking for ways to better treat our skin and help it survive through this extreme weather. Amanda Baker, make-up artist and esthetician at Hair by Bennie and Friends, gave us some excellent advice on how to treat your skin well and protect it during this abnormally hot weather. Check out her favorite products and expert advice below.

With record highs and more activities outdoors it’s important to be sun safe now more than ever! Here are some great products to keep your skin healthy and protected, while still incorporating anti-aging benefits.

Tretinol: Help erase summer sun damage by using tretinol (a more gentle form of Retin A). This powerful product fades sunspots, erases wrinkles, and brings back a healthy glow- all while you sleep!

Purifying gel cleanser: Remove makeup and impurities gently with this foaming gel cleanser, while replenishing moisture back into the skin. Use twice a day during the summer to remove sweat and excess build up to keep your skin blemish free!

Vitamin C 15% Serum: This is my favorite skincare product! Absorbing as fast into the skin as water, this powerful anti-oxidant serum offers some of the strongest protection against free radical damage (such as UVA and UVB rays) while instantly giving you noticeably smoother, brighter skin. It also balances out oily skin, fades freckles, and firms lines. This is a must for prevention and maintenance.

Clear complexion pads: Great for guys and teens, or right after the gym, these salicylic soaked pads offer fast and efficient removal of bacteria and oil. One side is a scrubby side for added cleaning, and they make a great acne toner too.

Eye restore: Staying up later in the summer and seeing the effects? Erase them with a good eye cream! This has added green tea to soothe tired eyes, and peptides to keep wrinkles in check. Having moisturized eyes is important to keep skin looking fresh and summer ready.

SPF 40 Facial moisturizer: Don’t forget the sunscreen! The FDA recommends an SPF of 40 or higher for everyday sun exposure (not for just sun bathing or being outside for more than 2 hours). Reapplying is essential in this summer heat, and remember, apply at least 30 minutes before going outside. It takes that long for the liquid form to take full effect.

B Balanced Shampoo and B Mighty Conditioner: The scalp is still a place that needs to be protected by the sun. It can get burned too! These shampoos and conditioners all contain vital scalp complex, which is filled with a blend of ingredients to promote healthy hair and scalp. Anti-oxidants sooth and provide UV protection. It pulls out impurities and gives you healthier, stronger, shinier hair.

Please be good to your skin this summer! No one likes an oily or leathery face. Go see Amanda and the rest of the crew at Hair by Bennie and Friends at 2346 Frankfort Avenue, 502.895.1956.
