A Smackdown comes to Louisville [Sports]

It’s no secret that the city of Louisville has a long and storied history with the ballet of professional wrestling. While Swan Lake might be ever present in so called, “classy” theater I prefer dance that concludes with some guy getting clobbered with a steel chair.

And, while it might not be for everybody when one looks at the history of the sport that made names out of the likes of Hulk Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Ric Flair the city of Louisville is a major town in its development, along with areas like Memphis, Tampa Bay, and Calgary, Canada.

With that in mind the world’s preeminent professional wrestling, World Wrestling Entertainment, is coming yet again to the Derby City, this time to the KFC Yum Center for their Smackdown World Tour on July 30.

Tickets can be picked up at the Yum Center’s box office or Ticketmaster and range in price from 16 to 63 dollars, and the event is set to commence at 7:30 that evening.

Ironically this will be a homecoming of sorts for several of the wrestlers that will be competing as the likes of Randy Orton, Kane, and Mark Henry among others spent time with Louisville’s Ohio Valley Wrestling, which has and continues to produce much of the talent that makes their way to the “big time” so to speak.

According to WLKY the main event will see a championship bout between Orton and Christian, two major stars in today’s world of professional wrestling.  Other match-ups are set to include appearances by Stephen Farrelly “Sheamus”, Glenn Jacobs “Kane”, Bryan Danielson “Daniel Bryan”, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes (known as Cody Runnels in OVW), and a number of other competitors.
