Spend the holidays with the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra this weekend [Highlands]

If you’d like a break from all the recorded, overplayed Christmas music on the radio, the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra has just the solution. The acoustic ensemble will perform a free concert on Sunday, December 5 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1960 Bardstown Road in the Highlands.

The group, which consists of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, guitars and bass, will perform instrumental music from early Baroque and Renaissance periods up to the modern day. They have performed around the world and at such local and regional showcases as Kentucky Homefront, the Old Fashion 4th Of July Festival at the Peterson-Dumesil House and Berea College. This performance will feature music by former LMO musician John Goodin, fantasias by Konrad Wolki and Giacomo Sartori and two contemporary works by Robert Martel. The concert will conclude with traditional holiday tunes and a singalong.

The show begins at 3:00 and is free and open to the public. For more information, call Eugene Carner at St. Francis at 456-6394.
