Last night I went to the final Waterfront Wednesday Concert of the year. The music was great, the beer was cold, and the weather couldn't have been better. However, as we left I heard the host say "Thank you all for coming out to this years final Waterfront Wednesday Concert and we will see you next year". As I looked up at the Louisville skyline and took my final gulp of beer I couldn't help but be a little disappionted that summer is coming to a close. And that means no more Bats games, no more outdoor concerts, and no more relaxing at one of many Louisville restaurants with a great patio. It is getting close to time to bundle up for winter and it bummed me out a bit.
When I got up this morning I took a look at my calendar and I realized if it has to cool down October is one hell of a month for it. From baseball to Halloween there are a wealth of things to keep us all entertained as the mercury drops.
For a Scare:
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of October is naturally halloween. Of course with that comes haunted houses, costume parties and all the other festivities. It wasn't until this year that I realized how much halloween really had to offer. For those looking for a haunted house there is always Danger Run14 and Nightmare at Otter Creek however I personally suggest The Waverly Hills Sanatorium. It will scare the life out of you and you will get an interesting history lesson. For those looking for something a bit more civilized the production of Dracula at Actors Theatre is a classic that runs throughout the month and shouldn't be missed. If family friendly is your focus we always have the Louisville Zoo Halloween Party and the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Fright Fest every weekend in October. All in all there is something for everyone.
For a Show:
For all those out there that hanker for some live entertainment Louisville won't leave you unsatisfied this month. Whether you want to listen to a tune or have a laugh this city has it. No matter what your musical taste is there something for you with concerts including: Citizen Cope, Old Crow Medicine Show, Alanis Morissette, David Byrne, The Black Keys, Ben Folds and The Misfits. However, if you are looking for something to lighten the mood 4th Street Live's new comedy club, Stand Up Live, has some great acts like Christopher Titas,Sinbad, Tracy Morgan, and Lisa Lampanelli.
For a Brew:
One of my favorite things about October is the beer. Every year Germans around the world celebrate our heritage with great beer, food and music during October Fest. To take in a little German culture swing down to Theatre Square on 4th Street. The Octoberfeast Louisville will give you a taste of what Germany has to offer. But keep your eye out for all the other October Fest events that are going on in the city, they promise to be a nice change of pace.
For a game:
To all the sports nuts out there prepare for your wives and girl friends to haye you, between football and baseball you won't have much time left. Even if you don't find baseball that entertaining this is the post season ,when it counts, and that certainly adds a little to the experience. Keep your eye on the Cubs, thay may just break that curse.
If MLB wasn't enough you also have football to engulf your entire weekend. With collage ball on Saturday and NFL on Sunday all you need now is some brews and a grill and your weekends are mapped out.
As you can see I have a pretty busy month ahead of me but have no fear I'll be back soon with the highlights for next month.
