The weather in Louisville turned cooler Thursday night, yet Uncle Slayton’s turned up the heat inside as Chris Pierce and Shane Alexander played the coffeehouse style venue on East Broadway. Relatively new to the Louisville music scene, Uncle Slayton’s hosted this awesome show, inviting two gentlemen from LA to join us here in the ‘Ville for a night of original, soulful, and organic material-acoustic material, by the way. Driving in from Ashville, NC the day of the show, Pierce and Alexander were able to see a good bit of Kentucky and when they got to Louisville, they just wanted to know one thing-how is Louisville pronounced?
A great conversation began between the artists, myself, and the owners/operators at Uncle Slayton’s; Bill and Rebecca Kessler, surrounding the pronunciation and it spiraled into anything and everything about music, cities, culture, and a bunch of other cool stuff! These guys know there stuff-including how to rock the denim at a show. Alexander brought two denim shirts, just in case. Pierce played in a coal black suit, a complete ensemble ready set to drop a few tunes to the audience. Pierce took to the stage donning a vintage Les Paul-so jealous, sat on the stool, and jammed for nearly an hour. We took a short break and then Alexander provided pure unadulterated rock n’ roll. Both Shane and Chris hit the chords just right to make sure the music bounced around the ear in just the right way before heading on up to the brain for interpretation.
The audience took to these guys like white on rice! Pierce and Alexander were so sweet, friendly, and so very talented. Pierce played new material from I Can Hear You, an intriguing mix dropped last week to rave reviews on both coasts and across the pond-that’s the UK. Alexander, with his “three favorite albums”, let us hear cuts from MonoSolo, complete with catchy beats and stark chord changes. These guys travel the nation and overseas sharing the coolness of music-exhibiting the very nature of why we listen - it ROCKS OUT! Don’t believe me? That’s ok; go listen for yourself!
