Winterpills

Massachusetts' duo Flora Reed and Philip Price are the indie band Winterpills, and they will open for singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston at Uncle Slayton's this Sunday night on June 16.

Last year, I reviewed the Winterpills' latest album, All the Lovely Goners  and my positive first impression was not mistaken. Not only is it still in my iPod rotation, the album was included on MOJO's Top 10 Americana Albums of 2012. The Winterpills bring their beautiful lyricism and lush pop hooks back to Uncle Slayton's in support of Johnston, who is readying his newest release, Neon Repairman.

Fans of intelligent songwriting and richly textured folk rock music will not want to miss this lineup, which is, unfortunately, one of the last at Uncle Slayton's at 1017 E. Broadway. Owner Rebecca Kessler recently announced its imminent closing on July 27th. A cozy room with good acoustics, friendly owners, and true Louisville hospitality, this venue will be sorely missed. Show time is 8:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door. For more information, call 502-657-9555 or check the website.
