The “Artsy Fish and Aquarium Show” opens First Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at the Switzerland County Visitors Center located at 128 West Main Street in Vevay, IN. A reception will be held from 6-9pm.
At the request of Anita Danner, Switzerland County Tourism interim director, ideas were explored to fill an empty cabinet housed inside the Visitors Center exhibit room. As a result, Switzerland County artist Ann Farnsley became the acting “aquarium curator” for over 20 artists who were invited to create “artsy fish” to swim, hang, or lie within the glass case.
Participating artists include: Donna Paige Baker, Joyce and Ken Benbow, Wanda Benzing, Martha Bladen, Rosemary Bovard, Tony Catanzaro, Mary Christiani, Jay Davidson, Ann Farnsley, Debbie Foster, Nancy Martin, Marty McGraw, Matthew Nightingale, Meredith Luhrs, Rick Starker, Emma Sullivan, Della Swincher, and Carolyn Wainscott.
Artists could create works from foamboard, paper mache’, fabric, ceramic, wood, metal, glass and other types of materials. Bright colors, glitter, and reflective surfaces were encouraged. Depending on the artist, some fish will be available for sale.
Enhanced by lights, entries will include a sparkling array of distinct species of aquatic life. The artsy aquarium compliments an exhibit of river art and driftwood that located within the exhibit room. As artists are continuously bringing in their works, fish entries may find themselves swimming amongst the driftwood.
The reception is free and open to the public, with light refreshments available and Bill Wiseman performing his dulcimer. The show will run through Monday, Dec. 9.
