What is classical education?

Join us for an Admissions Open House to discover Louisville Classical Academy, recognized for innovation in designing a superior liberals arts education for the 21st century. On a campus founded in a beautiful stately home on 22 acres, students in grades 3 – 12 form a community shaped by respect and kindness that supports individuality and a relaxed learning environment.

Our scale of fewer than 100 students permits students to work around a common table led by masterful teachers in developing core knowledge, cultural literacy, reasoned thought, creativity, and skillful communication. Students learn at their ability rather than grade levels, with none of the social issues that are commonly cited to discourage accelerated learning.

LCA nurtures respect and love for learning by fostering highly effectual habits of mind. The classical languages of Latin and Greek at all grade levels provide a superior means of forming such habits while instilling a profound knowledge of the source of our government, laws, literature, language, arts and sciences with which to comprehend the modern world. With the advanced reading skills that are the result of classical language study, English and history classes work at several years beyond grade levels. Math and science are also taught as liberal arts for their ability, when taught for mastery of both skills and conceptual understanding, to develop logical thought and sustain curiosity about the natural world.

By providing its students with peers, faculty, and an environment that promote the highest levels of intellectual and personal growth, classical liberal arts education at Louisville Classical Academy offers the foundation for a rich and rewarding life. Defining liberal arts education as one that develops the ability to both govern one's own life and to be a contributing citizen of a democratic republic, LCA recognizes the cultivation of virtue to be as important as the cultivation of the mind.
