In addition, other horse racing and sports memorabilia will be on the auction block, with proceeds going to PDJF.
Buffalo Wild Wings will be featuring the famous Mint Julep and Oaks Lily in complementary glasses throughout the event, as well as Miller Lite drafts. Come join us for Derby fun and festivities, all to benefit PDJF. Guest appearances by other racing celebrities are also expected to add to the event excitement.
The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides financial assistance to former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries. Since its founding in 2006, the fund has disbursed over $3 million to permanently disabled jockeys, most of whom have sustained paralysis or brain injuries. Many of the jockeys served were injured while in their 20s and 30s and face decades of living with a disability. They have lost their income and the opportunity to build a financial cushion sufficient to support them and their families.
Juan Cruguet became a part of racing history as the only jockey to ride an undefeated Triple Crown champion, guiding the great Seattle Slew to victory in the 1977 Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes. His success in the latter was dramatically punctuated by the maverick jockey's unforgettable deep stretch gesture, triumphantly raising his right arm 20 yards before the finish. In a riding career spanning four decades, Cruguet won over 2.400 races, including mounts on the brilliant champions Hoist the Flag, Arts and Letters, and San San. Cruguet also became a successful international rider with stake victories in USA, Canada and France.
