Author Lorri Glover discusses the fate of the Sea Venture, the ship sent from London to rescue the settlers of Jamestown.

 

In The Shipwreck That Saved Jamestown: The Sea Venture Castaways and the Fate of America, author Lorri Glover, will discuss the fate of the Sea Venture, the ship sent from London to rescue the settlers at Jamestown in 1609. This historical narrative describes the shipwreck off the coast of Bermuda and the resulting mutiny when the 150 castaways, who had been seduced by all that the island had to offer, were ordered to continue to Virginia.  After building their own boats, the castaways sailed to Jamestown and faced the challenges of rebuilding America’s first permanent colony.Lorri Glover is a Professor of History at Saint Louis University. She is the author or editor of several books and is currently researching a book detailing the familial experiences of leaders in the American Revolution. This event is presented in association with The McConnell Center at the University of Louisville and the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative. Reservations are suggested.
